Five Seven Music – “Fall 2013 Sampler”

Release date: Fall 2013 (Various)

Based out of midtown Manhattan, Five Seven Music specializes in upbeat power pop and electronic-influenced indie rock here on their 2013 Fall Sampler. Female-fronted Oh No Fiasco plays the heartstrings on “All Systems Go,” a track about all those sunny feelings about falling in love and fucking going for it with all your heart. Midi Matilida also went for that love on their rocker “Love & the Movies,” and apparently love is super beautiful and better than anything on the TV screen. Behaviour’s “Heartbeat the Soul” is a soft electropop ballad. Nico Vega is an indie rocker who’s also in love and it feels like “Lightning.” The Dirty Heads’ song “Coming Home” strikingly reminds me of a happier Richard Buckner arrangement, with gentle acoustics and plaintive lyrics. Not much differentiates the songs, but they’re all solid releases. Five Seven Music is going to have a good year in 2014.
